A Message from the President
Energized for a New Academic Year

With less than two weeks remaining until the start of a new academic year at UNC, the excitement and energy is building as we prepare to welcome students, faculty, and staff to campus. It has been a busy and productive summer for us, highlighted by the transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of Rowing, Not Drifting 2030, significant construction work completed to revamp our dining options in the University Center, and the welcomed arrival of new leaders, including Dr. Kirsten Fleming, Provost and Executive Vice President; and Dr. Beth Longenecker, Founding Dean of the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Back to the Future at UNC 
As new students arrive on campus next week, some will be traveling a path familiar to a parent or family member. Striesand Sampaga ’02, ’04 shares her thoughts on returning to campus to help her daughter get settled at UNC 24 years after her own arrival in Greeley as a freshman from Hawai‘i.

UNC Posts Record Fundraising Year
Thanks to the ongoing generous support and engagement of alumni, friends, faculty and staff, the University of Northern Colorado has posted a record fundraising year for fiscal year 2022 (FY22), surpassing the $20 million mark for the first time in UNC’s history.

Noteworthy Pride Points  
Mike Anderson ’90 was named the new head coach for UNC Baseball. Anderson played for the Bears under legendary head coach Tom Petroff and was drafted in the eighth round of the 1986 draft by the California Angels.
 

Lyndsey Crum ’05 was selected for the highly competitive and prestigious Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award to participate in an International Education Administrators Seminar in Germany.

 
Emily Kotas ’07 was appointed director, corporate partnerships for the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation and works with corporate partners to invest in and transform care for kids across an 850-mile radius of care.
 
Emilie Waggoner ’13, ’16 was promoted to director of student transitions at the University of Colorado Denver where she also teaches the course “Anime Goes to College.” Waggoner also presented at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles.

Diagnosed in the third grade with Dyslexia, a learning disorder that makes reading and writing difficult, writing wasn’t always a passion for Business major Michael Nolting. It used to be his least favorite subject in school. Now he has self-published his first novel – The Thorn
