Joyce "Ann" Britt Teague

Joyce “Ann” Britt Teague was born April 25, 1936, in Hope Mills, NC, and graduated from Lumberton High School, Lumberton, NC, in 1954. She earned degrees from Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (now Carolina College of Health Sciences) in Charlotte, NC, Columbus College (now Columbus State University) in Columbus, GA, and University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.
 
During her nursing career, Ann worked at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC, Elmendorf AFB Hospital in Anchorage AK, Fieldcrest Mills, Columbus, GA, and School District 6 in Greeley. She also held numerous volunteer positions with the American Red Cross. Among the awards she received are the Charlotte Memorial Hospital Nursing School’s Best Bedside Nurse award and 2nd highest GPA from the class of 1957 award, National Student Nursing Honor Society’s Santa Filomina award, Columbus College’s Magna Cum Laud award, School District 6’s Chili Pepper Award and the Appreciation in Recognition of Exceptional Loyalty and Service to Students award.
 
Ann enjoyed participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Greeley each year. As a cancer survivor, she was especially honored to participate in the Survivor’s Walk during this event. She also enjoyed School Nurses Week and wore her “old fashioned” nursing uniform from the 50s. Ann picked up pennies she found during her walks and gave them to her young grandchildren; the poem “Pennies from Heaven” was especially meaningful to her family.
 
After Ann passed away in 2003, the Ann Britt Teague Memorial Fund Scholarship was established in her memory with contributions from her friends, family and colleagues.

The Ann Britt Teague Memorial Scholarship Fund is awarded to junior students in the UNC College of Natural and Health Sciences, School of Nursing.

The University of Northern Colorado Foundation is pleased to recognize the generosity of friends, families and colleagues of Ann Britt Teague, who provided the gifts to create this permanent fund to perpetuate excellence in the College of Natural and Health Sciences.
