Letters to the Alumni Association – Kay & Larry Britton

Dear UNC Alumni Association,

I wanted to share the attached photograph from the Tom Benich Invitational track meet. The photograph is of current student-athlete Keith Britton and his grandfather, Gerald (Jerry) Colgate. Grandpa Jerry wore his 44-year-old letter jacket from Colorado State College (UNC) to the track meet.

Jerry Colgate was a student in Greeley from 1961-1966, graduating with a degree in Physical Education. He was one of the quarterbacks on the Bears football team. In 2008, he was awarded the Gene Bunnelle Award by the Colorado High School Athletic Association for 30 years of service as a basketball official, given annually to one current or past member who has contributed significantly to the association off the court. Since his grandson started competing this year, he has not missed a track meet.

Keith, a freshman, is a 3rd generation UNC student (both of his parents received Physics degrees from UNC in 1994/1995). Following in his grandfather's footsteps, he is pursuing a degree in Sports and Exercise Science (K-12 Physical Education). He is one of the long jumpers on the UNC track team.
