Student Profile - Samantha Mooney

SamHometown – Highlands Ranch, CO
Major – Art History
Class Year – Freshman

Why did you choose UNC?
Originally, UNC stuck out to me because of the size and the academic programs. I needed a smaller school, with professors that could pay individual attention to their students because that's how I learn. After being here, I've fallen in love with the campus and the people and the extra-curricular programs as well, making it easy to make the most of my college experience. UNC has become my home.

Why did you choose this major?
I chose art history as my major because my dream is to become an art museum curator. I love to be in charge, I love to learn, and UNC's art program is wonderful. It will definitely teach me what I need to know in a challenging, yet interesting way, ultimately paving the road to my future success.

What clubs/activities are you in?
I am the director of Alumni Relations for the Student Alumni Association (SAA), which entails being in charge of the Alumni Mentor Program (AMP). I am also involved with Bear Catholic, University Program Council, and Student Senate.

What excites you about SAA?
SAA is one of my favorite things about UNC because it helps me to not only paint the picture of my future, but to actually begin taking the steps to achieve that future in every professional, successful, and confident way possible.

What are our students looking for from an alumni mentor relationship?
Students are looking for mentors who can be their guides to success, their tools when dealing with knowledge and confidence, and their friends. These students are dedicated people who admire their mentors and are striving to be bright, successful people with a promising future.

Why is it important for our students to establish relationships with our alumni?
Our alumni are just as much our family as our current peers. UNC was home to all of us, and alumni have been through the difficulties and victories thrown at them that current students will soon experience. There is nobody better to help lead current students toward a better tomorrow.
