The Dobby Letters
J.S. “Dobby” Doubenmier, a professor and coach at what was then Colorado State College of Education, created “Around the World with ‘Dobby”. This consisted of letters to keep up with his former students while they were on Army bases or even away at war. The trend started before the war began when three boys Dobby coached wrote asking him the “happenings at CSC”. Before the war ended more than 1,600 men and women serving in the armed forces were communicating with Dobby through these letters.
The letters have been bound into a thick volume for safe keeping, and are housed in the James A. Michener Library. This blog is made up of transcripts from “Around the World ith Dobby”, and are reprinted here with permission from his family. These letters will be posted approximately 66 years after they were written.
