Michael Deutcher - BA 1969, MA 1975

Michael DeutcherMike Deutcher received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1969 from Colorado State College (now the University of Northern Colorado) in Physical Education/Biology and then received his Master of Arts in 1975 from UNC in Psychology, Counseling and Guidance.

Deutcher began his professional career as a public school educator. He was an elementary Science and Physical Education teacher in the Greeley-Evans Public School system from 1969-1971. He then moved to Roosevelt High School where he was a Psychology and Physical Education teacher, head basketball coach and an assistant football coach from 1971-1973. Deutcher was also a Biology teacher, head basketball coach, head tennis coach and an assistant track coach at Sterling High School from 1973-1977 where he enjoyed a very successful basketball coaching career.

Deutcher is now a financial advisor with 32 years of dedicated service to Northern Colorado. In 1977, he took a position with State Farm Insurance as an Independent Contractor Agent. He saw this as an opportunity to own and operate his own small business and provide important services to Greeley and the surrounding area.

During his tenure as a financial and insurance advisor, he received a number of outstanding achievements and awards. Among his most prestigious honors and awards are the State Farm Presidents Club (top 50 agents of the more than 17,000 in the Nation), Ambassador Travel Agent and Vice Presidents Circle in 2004. Deutcher has been repeatedly honored with National Insurance Awards including MDRT honors, National Achievement Award, National Quality Award, National Multi-line Award and National Health Award. He is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (1977-2008) where he served as President from 2001-2004 and as a National Committeemen from 2002 to 2004.

Mike has also been involved in his community. He has been Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer (1981-83) of the Kiwanis Club of Greeley. He served on the Weld County Health Department Board of Director from 1980 to 1883. He is also a member of the Weld County Republican Party and the Christian Businessmen Committee. In addition to leadership in the United Way, and the Boys and Girls Club of Greeley, Deutcher has been President of three different Homeowners Associations in the past 20 years.

At UNC, Deutcher was a member of the Lettermen’s Club from 1966 to 1968, serving as President in 1968. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity from 1966 to 1969 where he was the Fraternity President in 1968 and Pledge Trainer in 1967. He was a Varsity Basketball Lettermen and starter from 1966- 1969. He was on three Conference Championship Teams during his undergraduate career. Deutcher was also a Varsity Track Lettermen from 1966-1968 where his events were the high jump and triple jump and was the High Jump Conference Champion in 1966.

Deutcher is currently on a member of the UNC Alumni Association Board of directors and a member of the Advisory Board for the College of Humanities and Social Science. He is also very involved in UNC athletics as well as an annual donor and supporter of the University.
