In high school, Steve Baker couldn’t have predicted he would be a household name in Greeley real estate 30 years later. Not after his advisor said that he should consider becoming a welder or an auto mechanic.

“I’d never even opened the hood of my car,” Steve said. “And I didn’t even know what welding was. But I got the message that I was one of those kids that wasn’t supposed to end up at a four-year college.” Read more.

UNC Alumni Receive High Accolades
CEO and Educator Recognized

J. Justin Hutchens ‘95 recently was named one of America’s most powerful CEOs under the age of 40 by Forbes. Hutchens, 37, is CEO of National Health Investors, Inc., an investment trust that specializes in financing healthcare real estate, including nursing facilities, assisted and independent living facilities, medical office buildings, and hospitals. Hutchens graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Human Rehabilitation Services from UNC and subsequently obtained a management degree. He’s worked extensively in the senior housing and long-term industries. Read more.

Diane Worner ’85 recently was named Colorado Administrator/Principal of the Year by the Colorado Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Worner is the principal at Lucile Erwin Middle School in Loveland, Colo. The award goes to an administrator who is dedicated to the development of strong, innovative programs in the field of physical education. Worner earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from UNC and has been in public education for 25 years. Read more.
